How to pick the best wellness retreat in Africa
Picking The Best Wellness Retreat in Africa Doesn’t Need To Be Difficult…
In this post-pandemic era, we could all use a good wellness retreat to fill up our mental, physical and spiritual cups with positive energy and good vibes.
We suggest Africa as the perfect destination for your next wellness retreat. A wellness retreat in Africa is ideal for a mental health break or much-needed “revenge travel” (making up for lost travel time during COVID).
As soon as you arrive on the continent your mind and body will begin to unwind immediately. Your soul will be soothed by the serenity of the unspoiled and pristine natural environment. Fresh fruit and nutritious, organic food are available everywhere in Africa. Throughout all of the continent, life is celebrated exuberantly, allowing your mind to take a break from the everyday hustle and bustle, with space to finally fully relax.
Realizing the overwhelming need for mental and physical breaks, Away to Africa has created its Goddess Tour in Kenya and Tanzania and the Saffron, Wine & Thalasso Tour of Morocco.
Away to Africa’s Annual Goddess Tour
The Goddess Tour wellness retreat is designed to help women immerse in the healing energies of Africa, so they can step boldly into the goddesses they were born to be. We will embark on a journey throughout sacred spaces in Lamu, Kenya and Zanzibar, Tanzania, while indulging in a variety of profound daily healing practices.
Massages & Magic in Morocco
Our Saffron, Wine and Thalasso (Massages) Tour will take you from the sea to the sand dunes as you explore the hidden gems of Morocco. This is a tour for road warriors as we will travel by road to all locations. You’ll receive four relaxing massages, and have an opportunity to sip and taste the most expensive spice in the world, the gourmet saffron. Prepare for incomparable sunrises and sunsets and evenings of counting stars you never knew existed.
If you’re ready for mental, physical and spiritual renewal, and you know the continent is your ideal place to do it, here are a few tips to help you pick the best wellness retreat in Africa.
Top tips to help you pick the best wellness retreat in Africa
1. Know your goal
Are you looking for an experience focused on guided self-inquiry and introspection? Do you want to rejuvenate your body mainly through high vitality food? Or, do you want to take your mind off of everything and indulge in body treatments several times per day? Maybe you’d like a combination of all of the above… Think about what your body, mind and spirit are longing for to help you select your best wellness retreat in Africa.
Our upcoming Goddess Tour is carefully crafted to help women step into their inner goddesses through daily healing practices such as meditation, journaling and deep inner reflection. Plus, you’ll also have massages, chakra cleansing and nutritional lessons.
Our Saffron, Wine and Thalasso Tour is designed to give you a mental break through an immersion in the rich culture of Morocco’s spices, cuisine and teas. This is topped off by the four massages over the course of 12 days – a great way to relax both the body and the mind during your trip.
2. Decide how long you want to be away
How long do you want to spend on your retreat in Africa to ensure you’ve actually had time to unwind? Once you’ve gotten that timeframe down, remember to factor in the amount of time it will take you to travel to Africa. For many, a trip to Africa can take many hours or even days.
Women on our Goddess Tour wellness retreat will spend 10 nights/11 days, fully immersed in the healing energies of Lamu, Kenya and Zanzibar, Tanzania. This is the perfect amount of time away from your hectic daily life to completely unplug and recharge.
The Saffron, Wine & Thalasso Tour is a little longer than the Goddess Tour. Over the course of 12 days /11 nights we’ll explore Morocco’s fantastic cuisine, flavorful spices and collection teas. This tour will be offered in October 2022 and again in March 2023.
3. Consider the weather
Would you prefer warm weather or cooler climates when you’re trying to relax? Many people believe Africa’s climate is monolithic, but it’s quite the contrary. Some parts of Africa can get quite cold, depending on the season, while other parts can become blazing hot. Decide what you prefer for your retreat, and be sure the wellness retreat you’re looking at falls within the temperature you prefer.
Our Goddess Tour wellness retreat experience will be set in the warm summery month of November, when temperatures in both Lamu and Zanzibar are typically in the mid-80s°F. This is perfect for travelers who want to get away from the cold winters at home to experience the healing energy of beautiful warm weather.
The Saffron, Wine and Thalasso Tour is offered both in March and October. October is one of the best months to visit Morocco, as temperatures are cooler, averaging between 68°F and 78°F. You can expect a few rainy days in Morocco during October, but usually the weather is more comfortable for sightseeing. In March the weather in Morocco is much like the start of spring in any country. With flowers coming out and the sun shining, the weather is generally between 71°F to 75°F, rarely falling below 60°F.
4. Pick the right natural setting for you.
Do you want to be by the beach or in the mountains? Do you want to be in a city or do you prefer rural life? Africa is a massive place with endless opportunities for any of these options. Be sure to research the location of your wellness retreat so you can know whether the natural setting is in alignment with your best spot for a wellness retreat.
If you love the beach, our Goddess Tour is the African wellness retreat for you! We’ll spend time in the quaint archipelago of islands known as Lamu. Enjoy a dhow experience as you sail through the mangroves or spend your time relaxing on the white sands of Manda Island. We’ll also travel to Zanzibar, or the ‘black coast’, a Tanzanian archipelago off the coast of East Africa. Boasting beautiful beaches, Zanzibar is the perfect place to find relaxation. Wake up oceanfront in Nungwi, spend a day out in the ocean on our Safari Blue Tour and even spend time swimming with large sea turtles.
If you’d prefer a trip with many more scenic variations and the exploration of natural wonders, our Saffron, Wine and Thalasso Tour of Morocco is your best choice. We’ll go through the desert landscapes of Wadi Ziz and the Erg Chebbi. You will admire the sunset on camelback amidst the sand dunes that are up to 100m high. We’ll also see the vast palm grove of the Tafilalet region. We’ll take a hot air balloon ride overlooking the world-famous Todra Gorge with its up to 300m high rock walls. We’ll go to Essaouira and see the blue and white pearl of the Atlantic, and one of the most beautiful cities in Morocco that offers a quiet medina with traditional handicrafts. You’ll also experience aromatic organic gardens containing saffron… And so much more!
5. Consider going on a gender-specific or couples retreat
Wellness retreats are usually well-organized getaways that cater to the needs of women, men or couples only. These retreats offer programming tailored to men-only, women-only or couples. Decide what works best for you in this season of your wellness retreat life.
Of course, as its name suggests, our Goddess Tour is exclusively for women. Every aspect of the experience is specially designed to help women. We’ll be doing deep inner work to reflect on who we are, where we’ve been and make bold steps to step into the goddesses we were born to be!
If you’re looking for a retreat-like travel experience for both men and women, our Morocco tour is ideal. This 12 day/11 night Saffron, Wine & Thalasso Tour is slated for October 2022 and again in March 2023. You’ll get a massage on four days of this tour, while exploring Morocco’s fantastic cuisine, flavorful spices and collection teas.
6. Ask yourself if you’d like to explore the culture and give back to the community
For some, a big part of wellness is connecting with members of the community. Some wellness retreats offer an opportunity to experience the local culture through immersive experiences. Some wellness retreats also offer opportunities to give back to the community through community outreach visits. If either of these experiences will help you feel more grounded and connected, be sure to choose a wellness retreat that’s inclusive of this.
The Goddess Tour will be filled with cultural exploration. The tour will begin in the vibrant city of Nairobi, Kenya, before moving onto the quaint archipelago of islands known as Lamu. In Lamu you can spend time getting lost in the walkways of Old Lamu Town, and experience a dhow, sailing through the mangroves. Then, when we head to Zanzibar, you can walk through the cobblestone streets of Stone Town before learning of the East African slave trade.
The Saffron, Wine & Thalasso Tour of Morocco is another great cultural destination experience. This tour will take you from the sea to the sand dunes, for an exploration of the hidden gems of Morocco. We’ll venture into the country’s wonderful culture – Sip and taste the most expensive spice in the world, the gourmet spice saffron, which you will find throughout the country. Pack light, in order to carry back wine from the second largest wine producing country in Africa and the Arab world. Relax and unwind as you receive four relaxing massage experiences throughout the tour.
We hope you get the much-needed mental and physical break you’ve been longing for at an amazing wellness retreat in Africa.
