Join Away To Africa on this Tour centred around The Kriol Jazz Festival, a fusion of music from different origins all on one stage. Discover a selection of the best artists from the creole world for a program based upon exchanging as much on a musical level as on a human level.
The Festival’s main objective is to promote the Creole-inspired music from all the islands, whether in the Caribbean, Indian Ocean, Cabo Verde, Europe or Africa, the cradle of Creole.
Also get the opportunity to explore and enjoy The Cape Verde islands, a place of great contrasts, with each of the islands offering a different experience.
You will start with Santiago, the largest island in the archipelago and home to Cape Verde’s capital, Praia. Santiago is an island rich in history, where green valleys and lush plantations meet rugged mountains and bustling African towns. The country’s old capital, Cidade Velha, was the first city to be built by Europeans in West Africa, and today is a registered UNESCO World Heritage Site, having once acted as the main slave trading point between Africa, Europe and America.
Then head to Sal, which can only be described as a beach lover’s paradise, with golden sandy beaches sinking into azure waters, windows into the island’s past and some truly spectacular natural phenomena to admire.

Land in the capital of Praia where you will be greeted by an Away To Africa representative.
Check into your hotel, then we suggest you head out for a delicious, traditional, lunch overlooking the ocean.

DAY 2
Street Art/ Street Food/ Tapas Tour
Monday – April 1, 2024
Embark on our Mash Up Tour that features Praia’s vivid street art spread throughout three neighbourhoods, a gallery visit to meet one of the country’s most celebrated artists and some of the tastiest pint sized plates and drinks from around-the-way and upscale spots.
Later head on to a local restaurant while taking in a live performance of the once forbidden Batuku.

DAY 3
Santiago Island Tour
Tuesday – April 2, 2024
Today you will wind through the mountainous countryside to visit the Tarrafal Concentration Camp.
Afterwards, enjoy a leisurely lunch at the beautiful beach town before heading back to Praia.
On your way back, stop to visit a community of Rabelados (Rebels) to see how they are preserving their traditional religion and culture.

DAY 4
Old City Tour & Hike
Wednesday – April 3, 2024
Today morning you shall drive to the first port of the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade, UNESCO World Heritage Site Cidade Velha.
You will also visit Fort Real Sao Filipe, a “grogue” (sugar cane rim) factory and the old pelourinho (slave post)

DAY 5
Flea Market, Souvenir Shopping & Kriol Jazz Festival Day 1
Thursday – April 4, 2024
Today you will do a bit of people watching and souvenir shopping as you walk through the bustling Mercado Municipal to see the Badias (Santiago women) hard at work and the indoor/outdoor flea market called the Sucupira.
Return to your hotel for some rest, relaxation and freshening up before heading out to attend day 1 of the festival.

Today you shall fly 45 minutes north to Sal Island.
Take a tour of the Island; including a visit to the small city of Espargos, the old salt mine to exfoliate in its mineral-rich mud then cleanse in healing waters.

Rest and Relaxation
