Arrival in Cabo Verde

Sunday – April 6, 2025

Land in the capital of Praia where you will be greeted by an Away To Africa representative.

Check into your hotel, where a private money exchanger will come to the group for efficiency and ease. Then we suggest you head out for a delicious, traditional, lunch overlooking the ocean.

DAY 2

Old City Tour & Hike

Monday – April 7, 2025

Today morning you shall drive to the first port of the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade, UNESCO World Heritage Site Cidade Velha. Begin at Cidade Calabaceira and hike down into the valley. Along the way, observe everyday CV life. Down in town, walk along the oldest Portuguese organized street in the tropics and stop at the old pelourinho (slave post).

Finally, visit the Fort Real Sao Filipe (“the fortress”) constructed to protect the town from frequent pirate attacks. Then stop briefly to reinvigorate with light traditional snacks and refreshments including some made of “grogue,” Cabo Verde’s sugar cane rum, in Away To Africa’s representative’s peaceful shaded courtyard.

DAY 3

Santiago Island Tour

Tuesday – April 8, 2025

Experience the authentic culture and charm of Cabo Verde when you wind through the mountainous countryside on this tour. Stop at the former home of revolutionary Amilcar Cabral, a humongous Baobab tree said to be over 500 years old and the entrance of Serra Malagueta Natural Park.

You will then visit Tarrafal, a beach town, before stopping at the Rabelados (Rebels) community on your drive back to Praia.

Afterwards, consider having dinner at a Caboverdian owned restaurant beloved by tourists and locals alike featuring a live performance of the once forbidden Batuku. (Includes reservation only.)

DAY 4

Street Art/ Street Food/ Tapas Tour

Wednesday – April 9, 2025

Embark on our Mash Up Tour that features Praia’s vivid street art spread throughout three neighborhoods, a gallery visit to meet one of the country’s most celebrated artists and some of the tastiest pint sized plates and drinks from around-the-way and upscale spots.

DAY 5

Flea Market, Souvenir Shopping & Kriol Jazz Festival Day 1

Thursday – April 10, 2025

Today you will do a bit of people watching and souvenir shopping as you walk through the bustling Mercado Municipal to see the Badias (Santiago women) hard at work and the indoor/outdoor flea market called the Sucupira.

Return to your hotel for some rest, relaxation and freshening up before heading out to attend day 1 of the festival.

Kriol Jazz Festival Day 2

Friday – April 11, 2025

Travel To Sal & Island Tour

Sunday – April 13, 2025

Today you shall fly 45 minutes north to Sal Island.

Take a tour of the Island; including a visit to the small city of Espargos, the old salt mine to exfoliate in its mineral-rich mud then cleanse in healing waters.

DAY 9

Sailing Adventure

Monday – April 14, 2025

Spend a few hours sailing around the island taking in the views and stopping in shallow water to snorkel.
